JobTread Alternatives for Small Remodelers (2026): An Honest Comparison
On this page
JobTread is a strong product. It's also priced for companies that have an office. If you run a 2–15 person remodeling crew, this guide compares five JobTread alternatives on what actually matters on a small job: the monthly bill, whether you can try it first, whether it works in a dead zone, and what you give up.
Short answer: stay on JobTread if live two-way QuickBooks Online sync and a sub/vendor portal run your business. If you mostly need schedules, change orders, photos, time cards and invoices on a phone, a flat-priced tool like Amberchalk ($79/mo, unlimited users) or Contractor Foreman (from $49/mo billed yearly) costs a fraction of the price. If you want an established all-in-one and don't mind a sales call, look at Buildertrend.
Prices were checked on each vendor's own pricing page on October 17, 2026 and are in US dollars. Vendors change prices, so confirm before you buy. Amberchalk publishes this blog; we've tried to be fair and we list where each tool, including ours, falls short.
What JobTread costs in 2026
JobTread publishes its price, which is more than most of this category does. According to its pricing page:
- $199 per month, which includes one internal user.
- $20 per month for each added internal user (users 2–10), then $15, $10 and $5 at higher tiers.
- Annual billing saves 20%. There's no contract and no setup fee, and every feature is included.
- No free trial. Instead there's a 30-day money-back guarantee on monthly plans.
"Internal user" matters. Customers, subs and vendors are free in JobTread's portals, and field crew who only upload photos, write daily notes and check off tasks can be free too. But anyone who tracks time counts as a paid internal user. For a remodeler whose crew clocks in, that usually means paying for most of the team.
| Internal users | Monthly | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $199 | $2,388 |
| 3 | $239 | $2,868 |
| 5 | $279 | $3,348 |
| 10 | $379 | $4,548 |
What JobTread does well
Before switching, be honest about what you'd give up. JobTread earns its reviews:
- Two-way QuickBooks Online sync covering customers, jobs, invoices, payments, bills, expenses, cost codes and time (JobTread QBO page). For many owners this is the whole reason they buy it.
- Free portals for customers, subs and vendors: bids, POs, bills, documents and messages.
- Job costing depth. The budget flows into proposals, change orders and invoices, and accountants rate the job costing highly.
- Support. Every customer gets a success manager, live training and data import. Capterra reviewers give it 5.0 for customer service (Capterra).
Why small remodelers look for an alternative
- Per-user pricing hits crews that clock in. A five-person crew is $279/mo on monthly billing before payment processing.
- You can't try it first. JobTread explains that it skips trials because it invests in onboarding, which is a fair choice, but it means paying before you know if your crew will use it.
- Setup takes real time. Capterra reviewers mention a "steep learning curve," and one accounting firm tells clients to plan 60–90 days to implement (Level Accounting).
- Offline is limited. JobTread is a progressive web app, not an App Store app (its own mobile page says so). Its documented offline feature is quick photo capture that uploads when you reconnect (product update). That matters in basements, new subdivisions and rural jobs.
5 JobTread alternatives compared
1. Amberchalk: best for small crews who live on their phones
Price: Free plan (1 user, 1 active project). Crew $39/mo (3 users, 3 projects, +$10 per extra user or project). Pro $79/mo with unlimited users and projects, or $790/yr. 7-day free trial on paid plans, no contract (pricing).
What you get: schedules you can generate from a job template, change orders your client approves from a link with a typed signature, progress photos and daily logs, selections and deliveries, time cards, estimates, T&M invoices with markup, online card and bank payments through Stripe, a one-project homeowner link, and a contractor report PDF. Pro adds financials with job costing, receipt scanning and takeoff from plans. It's built offline-first: projects, photos and schedules live on the device, and changes sync when you're back in service.
Where it falls short: it's new, so there are no third-party reviews yet. QuickBooks is a file export (QuickBooks Online CSV and Desktop IIF), not a live sync. There's no sub or vendor portal. Like JobTread, it's a web app you add to your home screen rather than an App Store download. Online payments carry Stripe's fees plus a 1% Amberchalk fee (max $25 per payment).
Pick it if: your crew clocks in, you want one flat price no matter how many people you add, and you'd rather start today than schedule onboarding.
2. Contractor Foreman: most features per dollar
Price: billed yearly, $49/mo (1 user), $105 (3 users), $166 (8 users), $221 (15 users) and $332 (unlimited). Month-to-month starts at $139 for 3 users. 30-day free trial (pricing page).
Strengths: a very long feature list (estimates, change orders with e-sign, Gantt scheduling, time cards, bids, AIA billing, takeoffs), native iOS and Android apps, QuickBooks Online integration, and Stripe payments with ACH capped at $10.
Trade-offs: the cheap price is for annual plans; monthly costs a lot more. All those modules mean a lot of menus, and one r/Contractor commenter summed it up as "cheaper but feels it" (thread).
3. Buildertrend: the established all-in-one
Price: not published. Buildertrend's pricing page asks a few questions and books a call for a custom quote, and says every plan includes unlimited users. Its last published plans (late 2024) ran $499–$1,099/mo month-to-month, per a competitor's archive of the page.
Strengths: mature scheduling, client portal, sub portal, selections, warranties, QuickBooks, Xero and Gusto integrations, and a big training program.
Trade-offs: Buildertrend says itself that it's built for builders who run 5+ projects a year and want to grow to 6–8 figures in revenue. Expect a sales process and an annual commitment. See our Buildertrend alternatives guide for more.
4. Projul: flat plans with a strong field app
Price: billed yearly, Starter $199/mo (up to 3 users), Core $399 (up to 10), Core+ $599 (up to 20, adds job costing, client portal and QuickBooks Online), Pro $1,199 (unlimited users). Monthly billing costs more (pricing page).
Strengths: no per-user fees inside each plan, geofenced time tracking, a full mobile app, and QuickBooks Online and Desktop integrations on the upper plans.
Trade-offs: the features most remodelers compare against JobTread, such as job costing and the client portal, start on Core+ at $599/mo.
5. Buildxact: if estimating is your bottleneck
Price: a free "Go" plan with 5 credits for AI estimates and proposals. Foundation $199/mo (unlimited users, takeoffs, quotes, e-signatures) and Pro $399/mo (adds job management, schedules and the onsite app); annual plans save 15% (pricing page).
Strengths: estimating and takeoff are the core of the product, with supplier integrations like Home Depot ordering.
Trade-offs: scheduling and job management sit on the $399 plan, so it's less of a fit if you mainly need field tools.

How to choose in one afternoon
- Count who clocks in. If it's most of your crew, per-user pricing adds up fast. Flat or unlimited-user plans win.
- Decide how your books work. If your bookkeeper needs every invoice and bill in QuickBooks Online automatically, today, shortlist tools with a live sync (JobTread, Contractor Foreman, Projul Core+, Buildertrend). If a weekly import is fine, a file export works.
- Test the worst signal you have. Open the app in airplane mode in a basement and try to clock in, take a photo and update the schedule.
- Run one real job in parallel for two weeks. A tool your crew won't open is worse than a spreadsheet.
- Price the next two years, not the first month. Add the people you plan to hire.
Switching from JobTread: a quick checklist
- Export customers, contacts and your cost catalog before you cancel.
- Download signed proposals, change orders and invoices for open jobs as PDFs.
- Finish active jobs where they are; start new jobs in the new tool.
- Reconcile QuickBooks once at the cut-over date so nothing posts twice.
Frequently asked questions
Does JobTread have a free trial?
No. JobTread's pricing page says it doesn't offer a free trial because every customer gets a Customer Success Manager and hands-on onboarding. It offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on monthly plans instead.
How much is JobTread per month?
$199 per month including one internal user, plus $20 per month for each additional internal user (users 2–10), with lower per-user rates above 10 users. Annual billing saves 20%. A 5-user team is $279/mo on monthly billing (prices checked Oct 17, 2026).
Does JobTread have a mobile app?
JobTread is a progressive web app. You install it from the browser to your home screen; it isn't listed in the Apple App Store or Google Play, which JobTread explains on its mobile app page.
Does JobTread integrate with QuickBooks Desktop?
JobTread's native integration is a two-way sync with QuickBooks Online. Third-party guides note there is no native QuickBooks Desktop sync, so Desktop users typically need a workaround.
What is the cheapest JobTread alternative?
Among tools with published prices, Contractor Foreman starts at $49/mo for one user on a yearly plan, and Amberchalk has a Free plan for one user and one project. For a whole crew, Amberchalk Pro is $79/mo with unlimited users.
Does Amberchalk sync with QuickBooks?
Not live yet. Amberchalk Pro exports QuickBooks Online CSV and QuickBooks Desktop IIF files (plus Excel) that you import into QuickBooks. If you need a live two-way sync today, JobTread, Contractor Foreman or Projul's Core+ plan are better fits.
